how can i tell if my nose ring is in fected??

Answer #1

If it gets crusty, hurts and bleeds when you try to change it. Also its infected if its swollen.

Answer #2

Well, if it is really sore, red (irritated), pus is coming out of it, or if it is crusty around the ring…these are all signs of infections. Make sure you keep it clean.

Take care of it by doing sea salt soaks. 1/4 tsp non iodized sea salt mixed in a cup of warm water, soaking the piercing for 5-10 minutes twice a day. You can buy non iodized sea salt from your local grocery store, it should be in the isle with the rest of the salts. At the local Walmart it costs about $1 for a big can of it. If your lazy like me, H2Ocean is the same thing (you can buy that from h2ocean.com or bodyartforms.com) except in a spray bottle and more expensive.

Don’t use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, bactine, neosporin..etc. Those will do more harm then good and will prolong the healing time. Also the crap like bactine and neosporin will make bacteria stick to it which can cause an infection. Read the label – those things specifically say for CUTS and SCR.APES. A piercing is a puncture wound.

Don’t rotate it, that will cause crusties to go back into the hole which might tear the piercing. It also hurts very bad to rotate, with piercings if things hurt simply stop doing it. Also don’t touch it. If you NEED to touch it, make sure you hands are clean.

well it isnt really swollen or anything…it hurts when i change it an white stuff comes out but i clean it ALOT but NO blood!! my mom said if it gets worse i have to take it out but i really dont want to!!

Answer #4

How long have you had it pierced? How long had you had it pierced before you started changing it?

Answer #5

The white stuff is probably pus, although you may be cleaning it A LOT, you may not be cleaning it properly. Are you cleaning like I described above?

Answer #6

well i got it for my 14th birthday in may an i waited like 5 weeks befor i changed it an i chean it with piercing cleaner but there isnt alot of puss just a little!!

Answer #7

Well I would suggest keeping one ring in it, and NOT changing it until this clears up. You may be aggravating it by changing it too much. You should only change it maybe every 2 weeks. Also try and follow my suggestions on cleaning and taking care of it.

Answer #8

i only changed it once an now i only takee it out to clean it!! thanks for all your help i will try what u sugested…

Answer #9

You are not suppose to take it out to clean it….keep the ring in and clean it. For example: take the 1/4 tsp non iodized sea salt mixed in a cup of warm water and pour it on your nose, on and around the piercing!!! keep pouring it on there little at a time letting it soak in until it is all gone…. try and do it for about 5min. 2 times a day.
