New vs Old world monkeys

OK I need help studying and can not remeber or find the answer to this ?

What is the nasal morphology between new world and old world monkeys. thanks

Answer #1

The nose structure is oneof the main differences between Old World and New World monkeys (beside the (non)prehensile tail).

Basically: New World: flat (think of Columbus and how he showed that the world isn’t flat) Old World: narrow

New World monkeys are also known as ‘platyrrhine’ (flat-nosed’) monkeys because (surprise!) of their relatively flat noses and broad nostrils. Old World monkeys (or ‘catarrhine’ - ‘downward-nosed’) monkeys have narrow noses, with the nostrils pointing either downward or forward (not outward like the New World monkeys)
