why does my puppy mount my husbands arm

why does my female puppy mount my husbands arm

Answer #1

I completely disagree that it’s a sign of respect of love…if you watched dogs in action, you’d notice that puppies never mount another animal who they respect…it is a dominance posture. You hubby should push her off and say NO!!…

a dog mounts or puts there arms over yours because that means they love that person or respect them. I asked my vet the same thing. male or female do the same. its a sign of respect and love =]

I hate to disagree with a vet, however as a veterinary technician and dog trainer I can tell you that mounting is not a sign of respect, it is a sign of dominance. Both male and female, altered and non-altered, dogs do this, but it is a sign of dominance, not love. If your dog repeatedly mounts a family member, it is an indication that they don’t see you as the pack leader. If your puppy is 6 months or older, I suggest having her spayed immediately unless you’re going to breed her, and working on basic obedience exercises. This should reduce the mounting behavior.
