What sort of ending do you prefer in romance novels?

I’m in the middle of writing a book, it’s a romance and I have two endings in mind, one happy and one unhappy. I was wondering what sort of ending people prefered for romance novels??

Answer #1

just do what you like best but I like both

Answer #2

I despise romance novels, so I’d enjoy the unhappy ending better because it would cut some of the sappiness with a little reality. You could make the ending ‘romantic unhappy’, like Nicolas Sparks did with Nights In Rodanthe.

Answer #3

Most of the romance novels have unhappy endings…90%…I’d go with the unhappy ending :) It will make the love story even more beautiful & tragic…or, why don’t you try to do 2 endings? It would be something new and original :)

Answer #4

Romance novels always have a happy ending…consider that your target readers are usually women who are feeling lonely or just need a little extra excitement in their life and often view themselves as the woman ion the story - they want a happy ending.

Answer #5

a good ending cause it would be sad

Answer #6

Thanks everyone, I’m gonna carry on writing and see how I feel when I reach the end

Answer #7

Ever heard of ‘At First Sight’? Read that. It’s a romance, and the woman ends up dying during labor. I really don’t care about happy or sad endings;do what YOU want to do.
