Why do so many movies and stories end with a sunset?

Is it just a Hollywood or US/Euro/Oz tradition, or is it also an Eastern tradition? How far back does the tradition go? What is it that makes it seem so satisfying, despite its having been used so many times that it has passed well into the zone of cliche? Is the level of satisfaction age-related perhaps? What’s the psychology here?
