The Blair Witch Project was an experiment in indie film making, the idea was that it was supposed to be footage shot by film students doing a documentary about the Burkittsville witch, legend told that she would lure children into her home in the woods, torture and kill them. The students go into the woods and get lost, strange and frightening things happen to them, they eventually find the home of the witch and are tortured and killed, the students were supposedly reported missing and the film is all that the authorities found. The Blair Witch Project also included web sites and books, it made much more sense when all aspects (movie websites and books) were studied together. It was made for very little money and is the most successful indie film to date next to the original Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis hope this helps.

Trust me it was scary at the cinema back when everyone still thought it was real and those kids never came back!
