Math questions I made..can you answer them?

1] at a birthday party the girls ate 3 1/2 pizzas and the boys ate 7 1/4 pizzas. How many pizzas were eatin??

2]a family bought 2 1/2 gallons of paint for a bedroom. They had 3/4 of a gallon left over after they painted the room. How much paint did they use? How could knowledge of geometry have saved them money on paint?

3] how many sides does a polygon have if the sum of its interior ngles is 7200??

Answer #1

Well…hmmm…

  1. 12 Pizzas. It doesn’t say the boys and girls shared their pizzas. The girls ate 3 1/2 so there was a total of 4. The boys ate 7 1/4 for a total of 8. 8+4=12

  2. 2 1/4 gallons used. Paint for walls and such isn’t normally sold in 1/2 gallon cans so 3 gallons were actually paid for. If 3/4 was left over then we can therefore deduce 3-3/4=2 1/4. Having 3/4 of a gallon left over is out of their control. Having 1 3/4 left would be bad, but at least they have enough to cover up the mess ups!

  3. The polygon would have 42 sides. We’re looking at the INTERIOR angles added together, not exterior. If a regular polygon (circular in style), each angle would be approximately 171.428571 degrees each. 171.428571x42=7199.999982. Round up and you have 7200. An irregular polygon would have numerous different angles. Here’s the equation: For the sum of all angles: 180(n-2) If n= 42 the sum is 7200. If n=80 the sum is 14040

Answer #2

lets see

  1. 10 3/4
  2. 1 3/4
  3. 80 sides, which is one hell of a polygon.
Answer #3
