How long can you keep perfume stored for and what's the best way to store it?

I’ve recently received a pretty big perfume gift set which I want to store because I have many opened perfume bottles already. How long can I store it until it starts going off? I’ve stored it up in the back of my closet still wrapped. Is this a good place because I heard that it will change odor and color if it is out in sunlight. If you have any tips on how to keep the perfumes scent and any other places to store it, please let me know :-)

They say 12-18 months in general, but I’ve had perfume for over that time span and it’s been fine. In any case, though, it is recommended that you do store things like perfume in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight or heat. Normal room temperature is fine. As for where to keep it, in your dresser or closet should be alright.

I was given some Aftershave for Christmas over 25 years ago. I have hardly ever used it, except (mainly) to put on cold sores. I still have most of it and it does not seem any different than the first day it was opened. I don’t think there is much difference between aftershave and perfume so I guess they both last a long time.

I usually have it stored in a bathroom cabinet. It is in a squeezable opaque plastic bottle so it has always been protected from sunlight, but the bathroom is quite hot when in use, especially during summer.

I think any “Best Before Dates” are just to encourage you to use them up and buy some more.

perfumes do start to smell differently after around 18 months but aslong as you think they smell fine then keep using them as they are expensive to just through away. I heard a trick to keeping them fresher for longer is to store them in the fridge. Give it a whirl, i’ve heard it from a few sources :)
