long or short?

I have thick curly hair( I mean REALLY curly) I really want it shorter but im afraid that if I get it cut too short it will be too poofy and big. is there any way that I can make it so that it wont poof? anything I can do to it- anything I can put in it? ANYTHING except for straightening it every morning :-) pls I need advice

I dont want to ruin it using chemicals. thnks tho

You can get it chemically straightened. This will last a few months. Or there are cream solution things you can buy at target or something. But for REALLY curly hair I think getting it it chemically straightened would be the best job.
