you can use any sort of iron on long hair, you just may have to split it in to many sections. if you want a looser curl get a larch barrel tong or if you want tight curls get a thin barreled roller.
I used to have long hair, and the best idea is to get a curling wand. Taylor swift uses a curling wand :)
Just use a flat-iron, I get really nice curls from it.
