It’s true. The path of the moon’s shadow will not cross the United States. It will start in Northern Canada, pass near the north pole, and head southeast through the Eastern Hemisphere through Siberia, China, and Mongolia. A partial eclipse will be visible in the Eastern US, but it will not achieve totality.
The next total solar eclipse visible in North America will take place August 21, 2017, so settle in for a wait :)
