Is shaving causing my acne?

I have always shaved against the growth of my hair and now I am hearing that this might be the cause of some acne I develop at times. The other direction doesn’t shave as close. Is it the shaving causing this? Is there something that will make my acne problem go away so I can shave the way I always have?

Answer #1

It’s the first time I hear about getting ingrown hair because of shaving against the hait growth. Bo! If you say so…I’ve never had problems and I always shave this way, it lasts longer…I am lazy when it comes to shaving :P

Answer #2

I shave against the grain and I do sometimes get ingrown hair, but it is much more of a closer shave.

Answer #3

YES! shaving against the grain causes acne and ingrown hair as well as skin irritation and razor burn! just don’t do it. I used to have lots of blemishes and blotches and when I stopped shaving against the grain they dissappeared. Have a look at how to shave properly on wikihow http://www.wikihow.com/Shave

Shaving against the direction of hair growth yields the best results. Acne doesn’t have much to do with shaving: an inflammatory disease involving the sebaceous glands of the skin; characterized by papules or pustules or comedones. Teen age, lack of sex, a fat complexion or putting your dirty hands on your face, scratching and so on may cause acne. You might have a sensitive skin, find a product that will suit you and use it for a while to clean your face with it. Good luck!
