Is it okay if I use water to wash my flute?

This morning I was painting while dancing around, and got green paint on my flute. I dont remember what my old band tutor told me about cleaning,so I was wondering if it would be okay if it got water on it.

its ok to have water in it, you just need to thoroughly dry it. its band for instruments to hold water, besides brass or so I was told

as long as you got water only on the outside, and cleaned it carefully, I don’t see what the problem is.

The pads can cost a lot to replace, so try to avoid soaking them. On the other hand, they absorb some moisture from your breath each time you play. Any exterior marks from water (like dried on minerals) will not affect the tone and can be buffed right out with a silver polishing cloth.

Since I just noticed the suggestion to “US3 ALCH0H0L,” I’ll edit this some. Depending on the paint, it may be easier to remove than you think. It’s hard to get most paint to stick to metal. And most paint is made to be waterproof when it dries. Try just peeling it off if you can get an edge curling up. Or it may loosen a little with the help of paint thinner on a cotton ball or cloth.
