Is it normal for me to watch 30 minutes of televisions daily?

I don’t know when the habit kicked in maybe during my first years in college…I was too busy studying…I only keep up with world news and prefer to listen to my portable radio on the beach…Do you think it’s going to work against me not keeping up with what the media is sending out to us…I mean so far…I connect just fine with people…I mean I don’t watch but I read a great deal of books, magazines and newspapers…plus I use th einternet a lot daily too…but have you guys ever heard of anyone being totally dumb for never watching tv?

Answer #1

I watch around 0 minutes of tv daily. I prefer using the internet to get entertainment and stay informed. I think I’m totally normal and definitely not dumb. The average American watches 3-4 hrs of tv daily, but that doesn’t mean a normal person needs to watch that much tv. Now, if you had no tv, internet, magazines, books, or newspapers, then you’d be a completely un-normal freak. :)

In defense of television, if you’re watching mindless television, it’s not the fault of the television. There are any number of engaging, thought provoking programs on TV at any given moment. You merely have to be discerning enough to bother to find them. I don’t anyone would suggest that programming like Mad Men or Nova or a Ken Burns film does not engage the mind or stimulate interaction. I think writing off television completely cuts yourself off from an enormous, rewarding outlet for information. Plus, I find that keeping abreast of popular culture is a great barometer for the state of a society, important for relating to those around you.

Answer #3

I don’t even own a TV.

Too many people depend on TV for their entertainment and that’s bad because it’s not interactive, it’s mindless.

in conversations you have to actively listen to a person to respond to them. with reading you have to comprehend the words and use your creative mind to imaging the story etc.

so no, you’re not weird I applaud you.
