Infected Lip Piercing

Okay, I got my lip pierced for the second time two weeks ago, and it was healing just fine. The pro piercer said it would be okay to switch my labret stud out after a week for a ring, so I did. As soon as I did that, it all went to hell, maybe it reacted badly to the metal or it wasn’t cleaned enough… I really don’t know.

Here I am a pain-filled week later, a huge lump INSIDE my lip and I had to cut the ring off my lip just to get it out!!! It hurt like hell when it was in, and now that it’s out, it doesn’t hurt anymore, but I’m afraid to let it close up.

I put in the original stud to prevent it from closing, which was near impossible, the hard lump in my lip is THAT big… but should I leave it in while I continue to rinse with sea salt (I’ve been doing this religiously since I got the piercing, and it’s still gross), or take it out altogether? I keep reading that taking it out will lead to some serious problems, but will leaving it in allow it to heal?

I’m really scared. I don’t have insurance so I can’t treat any infections with antibiotics. Please help!

I’ve had mine for around 5 months and I’ve still got a lump on the inside of my lip, but washing with salt water helps :)

I good piercer would never have told you that. A good piercer would reccomend comming back in to switch the jewelry before its healed, only if there is a problem. Soak with a salt solution and use mouthwash. Just keep it clean and the swelling sould go down. Apply a warm washrag 4 times a day to speed up healing.

You need to get it pierced with a long bar… and don’t switch it until a month or more… and everytime you eat rinse your mouth out with LISTERINE … And let it close and heal and try to do it again the way I said =) hope I helped…!

I’d keep a long post labret stud in it at the moment… You should wait at LEAST 6weeks to change it.

Continue with the salt soaks on the outside. And rinse your mouth after every meal with ALCOHOL FREE mouthwash. =]

And if the lump [[which I’m going to assume is an irritation or infection]] dosen’t start to go down in the next few days, I’d go see a doctor…

Good Luck =]

Wash it with a salt water. Yee that works for alll infected piercings

Answer #6

that’s because the piercer is an idiot you cant change it after one week its a wound, and NO wound has healed within a week piercings take on average at least 3 months to heal and you should leave it in for at least 3 months before attempting to change it because you changed it sooner you aggravated the area so now its going to take a lot longer to heal and yes its swelled up because you aggravated it by taking it out so soon if you can, go back to the piercer and tell them they were wrong a person like that shouldn’t be piercing anyone if they cant give you the RIGHT information about it leave the piercing in but it will take longer to heal the swelling and redness should go away within a week and don’t change it for at least 3 months from when you took it out or if you want, take it out after those 3 months and let the hole close up also yes, continue the sea salt soak but dont do it too often once a day is more than enough also, don’t get anything else pierced by that idiot
