Do my parents love each other?

My parents have a huge age difference, and have very different personalities. They always make snide remarks to eachother and talk about eachother behind the other’s back. It really makes me unconfortable, but i dont know what to say to them. they have been married for 22 years, which makes me think that they DO love eachother, but it sure doesnt seem like it…what should i say to them?

‘ I’m worried about the way you and Mom treat each other - do you love her ?’

‘ I’m worried about the way you and Dad treat each other - do you love him ?’

Dear snoozie17, It is clear that they may be having some problems. When in the company of one or the other and they make a remark about the other just simply say…and always use an I statement and no blaming…I feel upset when I hear you talking about mom/dad this way. I would appreciate it if you don’t say those things around me. It hurts my feelings. It’s never a good idea to ask why because they may not know and they may start blaming each other. This is their problem and should not be yours. Sue…good luck

Hi,

A lot of times, when people are together for so long, they deep down love each other but still get on each other’s nerves! My Mom often says about my Dad “I love him but that doesn’t mean I always LIKE him!”

If they’re totally nasty and never affectionate or spending time together, you might want to approach one of them and ask them, as a mature person, what’s going on.
