How do I know when she is ready to have her pupies

I recently took in a pregnant cocker spaniel… This is my first time ever having to deal with this.. How do I know when she is ready to have her pupies… She stopped eating yesterday and she doesnt want to get out of the box I set up for her… She grunts and pants a lot… I have read up on whelping but I just want to make sure that this is normal and its not that she is dying on me… How soon before these puppies come

one more thing… one was born with a cleft lip…she doesnt seem to be having trouble nursing… but is this something that needs to be corrected or will it fix itself

do you know anything about how long she has been pregnant or when she tied with the male dog? I am sure you read 63 days is the length. You can also take a digital therm. and lube it and place it in her anus, you want to keep track of her temp, normal is 100.5 to 102.5, when a female is ready to go into labor it will drop then it may spike. I always start about 4 days away from due date and do it twice a day at the same time. I work at a vet hospital and I would reccomend a good exam from the docotor and ultrasound or x-ray, this lets you know how many to expect and they can tell you how far they think she is. Can you feel them moving in her belly? Does she have milk? Is she nesting?

Answer #5

I would say if she’s not moving and she’s pregnant, I’m not an expert but I would say she’s in labour. Though, once I watched this documentary and this zebra was in labour for ages, so that could be the case of your cocker spaniel, I would consult your nearest vet or her vet, just to be on the safe side. I hope I’ve helped your dilema and if I’m wrong please funmail me.=]
