How to make a Checkered flag

I have one white piece of fabric and one black piece. What is an easy way to make a checkered flag, like the kinds that signal the start of a race. I also need it to look neat.(as in clean) Thank you!

Racing flags are made like that on one flag, they aren’t two put together. What I would do is cut the black squares and sew them onto the white flag, if you cant sew I guess you could use a hot glue gun.
