How do you break up with someone you live with?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for three years. He’s 25 and I’m 20.

We’ve been living at his parents, for free, the whole time we’ve been together. In total, he’s only worked for roughly 1 year the whole time we’ve been together. As of now been unemployed for over a year straight. The money I make is “our money” that he freely spends on whatever he wishes. I haven’t spent a dime on myself for years. My hair, clothes.. nothing. Not only that but it’s not like we’re blowing the money doing entertaining things.. and we don’t have kids.

All we ever do is sit at home. I work and on my days off I sleep and watch tv. It’s like living in hell. He’ll go out to the bar without me and when I want to go he’ll say it’s not a good idea and it wont be fun. If I just so happen to get him to do something (even celebrate a holiday) he pouts the whole time. I’m an adventurous, spontaneous girl. He’s holding me back.

I need to break things off with him but I don’t know how to do it. Once I do it I’ll be out on the streets with nowhere to go - I don’t talk to my family and I don’t have the money for rent. I don’t know what to do, this breaks my heart everyday. :(

Answer #1

Move out.

Answer #2

do you have any friend you could move in with for a short while? Or find some roommates on craigslist to split rent. He is using you and you need to get out.

Answer #3

well why not wait a little while longer only because save up some money, without him knowing tho. after you have something look for a place and see if a friend would move in with u. when you find a place thats when you break up with this guy
