How do I get a job?

Most people understimate the effort to land a job.

When you are unemployed job seeking becomes your job. I know people who check into 2-3 potential jobs a week. To me that isn’t even looking. When you are looking for a full time job why not spend 8 hours/day on the effort? You might not spend all that time looking, you might spend some time brushing up on rusty skills that could be valuable to potential employers.

In tough markets finding a job might take networking and creativity. Ask everyone you know about jobs. There is a lot of truth to the saying that it isn’t what you know but who you know. Even when you are standing in line at the supermarket strike up conversations, mention what your interests and strength are, you might be talking to someone who can help you or someone who knows someone who can help you.
