How could I fail an alcohol test if I haven't drank?

I recently found out I was pregnant. Quit drinking that day. Doctor said I failed the alcohol test. I think I may have had a sip of a beer, literally, and I do cook with wine. Is this what caused it? I don’t want him to think I’m boozing it up. I just recently had my baby shower as well and I had read it was ok to have a glass of red wine here and there. Thus, I indulged and now I’m concerned. Can I do something to not have it show up? It’s already been 3 days and my appointment is in 2 days.

Hi,

cooking with alcohol will usually be no problem. Alcohol evaporates before water does. So if you boil the sauce the alcohol is all gone.

Mouthwash or medicaments may also countain alcohol. Read the ingredients list.

Try not to drink at all during pregnancy. Not even a little tiny bit. It may do severe damage to your baby. Especially in the first four months when the babys nervous system is developing. It doesn’t have to happen, but with every glass of alcoholic beverage you drink the chances of your baby being disabled are rising. You would hate youself for having a disabled child if you drink. You would ask yourself everyday:’ Why was I so irresponsible?’

So just don’t.

No amount, even a small amount, of alcohol is safe to drink while you’re pregnant. A glass of red wine a day does have it’s benefits, but the risks outweigh the benefits if you are pregnant. You can probably continue to cook with wine as long as you heat the food enough after adding the wine to ‘burn’ the alcohol off, but I would ask my doctor just to be sure.

Answer #4

If you’re a heavy drinking alcohol can stay in the blood for up to 5 to 7 days…if you’re just having a glass of wine…one glass of wine…24 hours.
