how can I convince my dad to let us be a host family?

I really want to host a foreign exchange student for a semester at my house. I think it would be such an amazing experience, and just a really cool thing to do. I really want to volunteer somewhere and my dad wont let me do anything, so I thought maybe having someone here instead would be so cool ! but im not sure how to phrase my question. can anyone help me convince my dad to let us be a host family? pleasee help me! thanks :)

Firstly - cultural exposure is a good thing.

Your father may have good reason for not wanting an exchange student. Its very complicated to have someone else’s kid live in your home. I’ve been there. Not easy. And yeah - not cheap at all.

Approach him with the advice above, but if he’s heard all he needs to know and still refuses, then he’s probably making the right decision for all of you, even if you don’t understand his reasons. Maybe money’s more tight than you realize and he doesn’t want to discuss that with his kid. Maybe he was traumatized by a rotten exchange student as a youth. You never know!

I know the exchange sounds great, but you’ll get your chance to explore and expose yourself to the larger world soon enough. When I was in HS, we didn’t have the internet to help us make international acquaintances. Don’t take for granted what you have, even though you may want more.

Good luck in your travels.

weel first you need to make sure you and your fam can financially support a new person the you could ask your dad and say dad I understand that you dont want me to become a exchange student but I would love to giv someone the oppurtunity of a lifetime and be a host family what do you think/
