Child support being spent on my Mom

You can only have child support sent to the primary caregiver of the child. And it can never be sent to the child. If there is a problem with how she’s spending it then your dad would have to take her to court.

Try to remember though that child support is for the support of the child. It should be used for a place to live, food to eat, electricity in your home, etc.. It does not go directly to you to buy clothes or whatever.

Unless you can prove that your mom is spending your child support money on other things then the courts won’t do anything. Remember that if it goes into her checking account and she pays bills out of that account you would have a very hard time proving where your money went.

Talk to your mother. The money should be used to put a roof over your head and feed you. There is not much you can do about it other than talk to a person from your closest state office. You can also talk to your dad about it. He can stop the payments from going to your mom and write you a check and make a copy for the court and also have you go with him to court if your mom takes him for back child support. Your dad would win the case but is that 500 worth losing a relationship with your mother?

Im pretty sure that it cant be put into your account or any other account..Unless you are in full care of sombody else ie. another family member. But that involes you moving out of your mothers home.

The only thing I can suggest, is that you sit down with your mum and ask if SHE can give a certain amount every month. Just explain how you feel and that you dont expect all of it, becuase ovbiosly she has to feed you and house you…But you could just say that you like some of it so that you can buy what you want/need as you are 18 and you feel you are responably to do so.

Well, if you are still living at home, she can say that she is using the equivalent amount to support you by covering rent, food and utilities.

You should try talking with her and see if she can’t give you a couple hundred of it each month for your own use.
