Have you seen tall old people ??

I am always messin with a friend of mine because he is 6 foot 5 and I tell him that people that tall die sooner than someone shorter (I know its kind of a sick joke but its not ment serious) but the other day we were talkin and thinkin have we ever seen somebody older than 70 over 6 foot 5 , I have never and I was wondering has anyone , and is there some truth to the joke .

No, its just that spine degeneration happies in old age, thus decreasing average height. But I think anyone of above average height is gonna stay above average or average anyway. You never see old midgets though. They weevil into the ground at some point because your spine can only degenerate so much until you resemble an ingrown hair.

my great grandfather was 6 foot 7when he died back when I was young…I don’t remember him that well.

my grandmother was 6 foot 2 (not that tall) but still tall when she died about 5 years back.

we gotta lotta tall old people around here :)

No, there’s no truth to that…

As you age, the spine compacts and often bends making you shorter than you were in your youth…a 6 foot man in 1940 may only be 5 foot 7 nowadays.

To add to that - people from an older generation were less likely to grow to be 6 feet…yes, some did, but it wasn’t as comon as it is nowadays.

ichibanarky I understand the shrinkage and I also understand that people were smaller 50 years ago but , I still want to know has anyone seen a real tall old person

Yes…my grandfather was 6 foot 4 before he died in his 80’s
