Guy Issues, Please help?

I have no idea what I’m doing but lately I’ve been thinking about this guy who use to be my friend. We haven’t been friends for over a year now and I’ve always been curious to know why even though I think I already know. We have been friends since 8th grade up to beginning of 10th (now I’m in 11th). We were close friends I guess ( I was on his top 8 out of 430 people on ms, if that helps?) and at one point he did like me but I guess I wasn’t interested in the time? I don’t know what my deal was. During the period of being friends with him, I was always shy being around him and couldn’t really talk to until we spoke online because its easyer to talk to him that way. At school I was to shy to say even a hello to him and of course got annoyed and would encourage me not to be so shy. Finally at the end before summer I finally got courage to stand up to him and just apologize to him and explained why I couldn’t really talk to him. He was being sweet about it, hugged me, and asked me to call him for the summer. Anyway the beginning of 10th grade,right when we got back from summer, I’ve changed myself to improve the better but also I’ve noticed that he changed as well.

He wouldn’t really talk to me much and always sit somewhere else with other people rather than sitting with me. I’ve confronted him before asking him in a friendly way saying “hey I’ve noticed that when I say hi to you, you never say anything back”. He just told me that his friends we’re more important to talk to so now I finally got that he didn’t care to talk to me. I thought that I was the only one that he did this too but aparently it seemed like a few other people got the same message that he no longer wanted to talk to them either.

I always assumed that it was because he wanted to gain popularity and I guess I was holding him back. Or he just used me for online gaming because right after he quit, he quit being my friend. Or he knew that I liked him and just felt weird to still talk to me? Still its pretty annoying because I did have a class with him all year last year with my friend. He would ignore me just like I wasn’t even there and just talk to my friend. I don’t understand what really happenend and it didn’t bug me uptil this point of where now I finally want to know (even though its been a year since I tried talking to him). Reason why it just now is because today I had a testing class period with him and I’ve noticed that today he was talking to a girl that he use to not talk to anymore. Also I see him working at the movies all the time. So should I just go ask what went wrong or is it just to late since its been a year and it would be kinda random to ask up to this point?
