Guardian of Grand Daughter

I am the legal guardian of my Grand daughter. I have been guardian since she was 1 month old. She has lived with my daughter, her mom, most of the time. Now, my daughter is exhibiting bizarre behavior and exposing my grand daughter to danger and keeping her out of school. She has missed over 20 days out of school this school term. For my grand daughter’s safety and mental health, I want to take complete custody of her. Would that be a problem? Could I just go and get her? I have court papers in hand already. She is 7 years old, she spends a lot of time with me also.

Answer #1

Take your papers and go to the police or a lawyer. Since we can’t see what’s on those papers, you’re probably better off to get their opinion on the matter.

If you do try to take custody of your granddaughter, you will most likely need a police escort anyway.

Answer #2

You probably can but you might have to be prepared to fight your daughter.

Make sure that you’ve documented the instances of danger that your daughter is exposing your grand daughter to in case you have to go to court to gain custody.
