Friends before fun mail, should it be optional, or what?

So we added a feature the other day where you can’t fun mail somebody unless you’re on their friend list…however, I’ve already read a few comments that indicated people weren’t happy about this added bit of “protection”. So, how should it work? As an option (eg, restrict fun mail to friends only) or as something that is for underage users only, or…? Profile comments are still open to anybody (so you can comment “add me as a friend” to make sure they do, etc).

I’d love to make sure we didn’t just do the wrong thing here…thanks in advance for your input. :)

Ok, we’ll make it optional, I just filed a task, and it should appear as an option when you edit your profile in the next week or two.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Why not just let it be an option that the users sets up themselves?

Just like rating pictures or automatic friend requests.

How about, if the profile belongs to under a certain age (17?), they have to opt-out. Over that age they can opt-in if they want their FunMail filtered.

I have occasionally received FunMail from individuals who were not willing to discuss their letter’s contents where anyone could see, mostly because they feared embarrassment.

Just my two-cents worth. :)

most members are underage, So I think doing that would bring you a whole new set a problems. Most people here arent trouble makers & we are familiar with the people here. We have the “Report Abuse” button I think that is enough.

Fun Mail should be available for everyone since many people even if you don’t know them need personal advice or might wanna talk personally to you.The option thingy is also good.
