First time voter

I am living in TX and I had to register before October 6 so I could get the registration certificate to vote. My friend is a first time voter; she has never registered but she just showed her ID and they let her vote. Why? Anybody knows, please explain?

In TN when you present your ID, they check in the system to see if you are registered. I have no idea about the procedure in TX

That’s really odd - maybe they didn’t realize she was a first time voter or something.
