Yup, don’t ever believe that the Europeans discovered everything. They didn’t. Pacific Islanders were living there and voyaging long before they came and nearly killed everyone due to disease. the pacific islanders traveled by wa’a (canoe) using the stars and weather to navigate, they did not use compasses. They were the first explorers.
In New Zealand we say waka. I love how similar the languages are!
