Example of duties?
This is part of a history question, and I do not know and real situations in which duties is used, or how to explain an example of how duties works
Duties/Tariffs: Taxes on imported goods
Imported goods are taxed so that they are more expensive – and this is so they don’t compete with the importing country’s industry. Example… if you want to buy a BMW in the USA, it costs a lot more than a car that’s manufactured in the USA - and a lot more than it costs to buy the car in Germany, where it wsa made. The idea here is to stop American car makers from going out of business.
And somehow they are, anyway, but that’s a different subject for a different post :)
