What are some good earphone brands and how much do they cost?

This depends highly on what type of earphones you’re looking for. I personally search for over-the-ear (commonly called sport clip) earphones because I work out a lot and hate when they fall out of my ear. I also search for in-ear (or ear canal) earbuds because the sound is MUCH clearer and crisper.

Prices vary depending on brand, material quality of earphones, sound quality (frequency you like), and where you’re looking.

I would, and have looked at sites like Amazon, NewEgg, local store sites, and Ebay. Most good (20Hz-20KHz) earphones are around $5-20. The really amazing ones made from real copper and gold and have frequencies of 8Hz-23KHz are more in the $40-300 price range.

You really can’t evaluate earphone by specifications like claimed frequency response. Different companies test their equipment differently and some companies stretch the truth (lie). I have some $80 Klipsch earbuds that are great and sound worlds better than the earphones that came with my iPhone. For that mater I have a cheap set of $10 Panasonic sport clip headphones I wear working out that sound better than Apple’s. You really have to try headphones with the kind of music you listen to in order to make a good choice.

I agree that companies lie sometimes about the quality they’re selling. Sometimes, technical specs aside, you just have to wear them on your head to see how they perform. I bought these Sony earphones once and they sounded worse than my older Philips brand even though I paid more. Klipsch, Bose, Beatz, etc. are worth the money, but no one wants to buy sub $100 earphones just for an MP3 player that they listen to for 1-4 hours a day on average.

i really like skull candy 50-50s they are superb. i have them for 5-6 months and they work perfectly. they are colorful and full of bass ( with bass booster eq on ipod settings) they are pretty cheap. and if u want headfones skull crushers are pretty funky
