Why do I need a credit card to use my iTunes giftcard?

Ok so yeah the fat man in the red suit this year went all out, and got me my precious iPod Nano…whom I have fallen for fast…haha no im kidding but…so yeah I also recieved this iTunes Video Card. For…about $25. Im all excited…and such of the suchness…until…I type in the redeem code. it says I dont have an account…so I try and resister for one…I get all the way to the bloody end…and… gasp I dont have a friggin credit card. is there any way around this? it just ticks me off… because…why need a credit card…if im not all upgraded and only have a gift card? why isnt it freakin working?
