Can dogs understand cats?

I wouldn’t say they “communicate”, but a dog does know when a cat is showing certain emotions. My dog babies my cats, and even breaks them up when they are fighting. She even nursed a couple of my cats when they were young.

As Colleen said, I wouldn’t say that they “communicate”. But I do think that they are able to understand, and pick up on the body language, and “energy” that they are giving out. For example, if a cat were to hiss and have that ‘angry cat’ body posture, the dog would pick up on it, and respond accordingly. Likewise, many cats and dogs have very close relationships and play together, sleep together, and generally get along well. So, yes, they can communicate, just not to the extent or complexity that they can with their own species.

I dont think they can talk to each othur but mabe they can understand body languige and stuff like that.

CUTE! I remember my cat (we sold him) was afraid of our 5lbs dog and he (the cat) was a lot bigger than the dog. The dog is heavier now, that’s when she was a puppy. She was really tiny and the cat was big but he was afraid of her. He would walk backwards with his talk between his legs and hiss and the dog. She just barked. I kinda felt bad for him though LOL

I think so. My cat wears the pants in my house coz we’ve always taught our dog to leave cats alone so our cat has taken advantage of that and made the dog scared of him XD
