Do dogs also get their peiods?

Answer #1

Yeaaa, its like when cats are “in heat” Ahaha, how else would animalss make babies?

Answer #2

Yeah just not as often as people they go into heat about every 6-8 months.

Answer #3

they dont get their periods but they ovulate, just like all mammals do. Mentruation is something that only occurs in higher primate species. Mammals like dogs have whats called an Oestrus cycle where they go into oestrus (or heat) after ovulation and this is the time where they are fertile

Answer #4

They don’t get periods!! The go into heat every 6 months. A “heat period” lasts 3 weeks. One week going into heat, one week standing heat, and one week going out of heat.

Answer #5

It isn’t really a period, as phranni pointed out is happens when they go into heat, generally every 6 months.

Answer #6

True, but with all that said, Female dogs to bleed for those days if that seems to be the question…

My miniature pincher is in heat and is driving us crazy…staining the whole house with drops of blood! I even cut up some older clean kitchen towels for her to use as a diaper so she doesnt leak on the furniture! Thank god for a few old pillows I kept laying around I have placed them around the house for her to sit on!

One thing is for sure, next month i am having the vet take care of that!

Answer #7
