Poor Freida! If her uterus ruptures, she will be gone with much pain as the infection goes systemic.

We have working dogs and if they don’t when they are growing up they are given away. Our cousins in Denver spent $800 on a sick CAT. I live in the country also…best stop there, so much for the “warm” part.

There are so many animals available, if one gets a potentially fatal infection, weigh the cost of recovery and the original purchase price to the $35 vet administered shot for putting them to sleep. They don’t even twitch, very peaceful for them.

In this area, any vet who will make “home” calls for big animals…ie: horses, goats, cows, will make an euthenasia stop for a dog…

Go thru the phone book, and check out the Large animal vets in your area.

Pyrometria CAN be cured with antibiotics…once kicked in, the vet can spay her…but this may be too much for you to handle financially…

DO check out large animal vets.

Uhm dont do it at home? You cant buy anything over the counter to kill her, and no vet will give you the meds. I mean the only way I can think is by shooting it, and you really dont want to do that. Just take your dog to the vet.

Answer #4

sorry to here about frida. you got some pretty good advice so far. this is probably one of the hardest this in life to do, especially for a dog lover. I will keep you and your husband in my prayers.

Answer #5

Pyometra can be cured with antibiotics. If it’s already gone too far for a cure, which I’ve never seen, take her to the vet or your local Humane Society. They will euthanize her at most Humane Societies for $20-25–worth it so she dies without pain. I believe euthanizing from home is illegal.

Answer #6

I think the vet can give you something to give your pet. Mine offered me, when my cat was dying. But I declined, took my cat back home and made her as comfy as possible for the last 4 days.

Answer #7

I would probably give her really nice treat, or something that makes her happy, wrap her in a warm blanket in my arms, and have the vet do it while in my arms so that she feels safe, and loved, and quietly falls asleep. If you can have it done at home then great.

I would do this as a last resort if she was suffering and could not be cured. I am not what that condition she has is, but apparently others say it can be cured.

Answer #8

well, I am a country boy- we do things differently out here- this question has negative legal implications attached to it, I can’t tell you how to euthanize. but I would agree with the being at home thing. you could consult a vet, and maybe they would make a house call to put your suffering pet down.

Answer #9

hospital, and maybe before you give me negative feedback you should’ve asked a question…but honestly why ask here only you know where your dog would be most comfortable
