Does anybody know anything about the Maya?
I would really like to learn more about the Maya Indians, but…I don’t know where to find information! And I can’t use the library, because I don’t have a library card! (There’s a couple of parts to this question…)

IS IT MAYA OR MAYAN? This has been driving me nuts. I don’t know what to call them, or what to search for, or…
-
Is there very much recorded history? Because I can’t seem to find any names of important people or holidays. I know their dates are different from ours, but still…there’s gotta be something.
It seems like all of the things I read talk about the calendar and Long Count and Short Count and tun and bak’tun and how they used a zero as a placeholder. But that’s not what I’m looking for. I want more of the cultural stuff. So if you know of any really good place to find some really good information, I would really appreciate it.
P.S. Does anyone else think there should be a miscellaneous category to choose from when you ask a question…? =P
Okay enough of the nit pickiness. I am of Mayan background. The word is Maya for the Indian word itself. To describe myself I would say I am part Mayan. Look for the Mayan ruins. The Mayan calendar. The Mayan pyramids in Mexico City. You can find a lot of stuff under wikipedia.com Hope I helped, Mama K
Of course you are. :) It’s just hard to wade through the curiosity questions and the homework questions. People are getting more creative in how to get answers because they know they can’t ask them. Didn’t mean to hurt your feelings or anything. I’m sure you understand. :)
Actually, it’s not a homework question. I wouldn’t ask a homework question because I wouldn’t expect to get it answered before the assignment was due. I was just wanting to learn more about them. I’m really interested in the different Indian groups, like how they lived and they things they believed. Am I allowed to just be curious?
Do a google search, you’ll find thousands of websites that have useful information on the Mayans.
Yep, typical homework question.
