Digging dog

How can I stop my dog from digging at himself

Answer #1

I’m having the same problem with my dog this spring…I’ve run the list thru my head of everything possible it could be…from seasonal allergies to a cold spring prolonging the use of heat in our house. He’s going to the vet now…because I’ve tried all my “tricks”…and tho his itching is less because of the tricks, he’s starting to think he’s a “bad boy” when I catch him chewing himself.

Make a vet appointment, and for temporary relief…mix 2 parts Listerine with 6 parts distilled water…keep the spray bottle handy, talk nice when you spray the spot that he’s after…the alcohol in the Listerine is antiseptic and it relieves itching, and promotes healing…it also is icky to dogs, so they leave the spot alone

I had a cairn terrier that had horrible skin allergies and would almost have been bald if I hadn’t taken her to the vet. she was placed on prednisone (that helped) but she gained too much weight. I slowly weaned her off the pills and started using oatmeal baths and that helped very much. I also placed a little apple cider vinegar in her water dish. 1 teaspoon in a small dish. that helped to prevent fleas and eased the itching from the allergies.

you can ask your vet for some soap that has medicine in it that will help him

Answer #4

Does he have fleas? This can cause a dog to do this.
