What is the difference between canadian bacon and american bacon?

What is the difference , and why the canadian bacon is so famous here in united states, just wondering. What do you think?

Canadian Bacon is also peameal bacon. Its more like ham, has a little corn meal crust, is soft and moist and thicker than regular bacon. It is also not smoked.
