How do you determine a cat's age?
We recently took in a black and white cat and do not know how old he is. How can we make a some what accurate answer?
Well I’m not sure, but I would check with my local vet, they shudnt charge anything for giveing u that info
Determining the age of a cat is never accurate, as there are many conditions that can hinder or quicken the ageing process, but there are a few ways you can get a general idea: First, check it’s teeth - if it no longer has baby teeth (which are noticeably small) then you can determine it’s at least four months old. Yellow teeth indicate a cat that is older - probably closer to ten years old. Check his coat - the older he is, the more coarse his hair will be. If he has evidence of grey hairs, whether it’s in patches or just strays, you can pretty much determine he is older than five years old. Check the eyes - clear, glassy eyes indicate the cat is no more than five years old. If the eyes are a little hazy, then the cat is older than five. Cataracts, or a thickening of the layer over the eye and the cat is at least 15 years old.
Interesting, I never knew some of the ways you have said, thx for the info

Examine your cat’s eyes. If they are glossy and clear your cat is probably young, somewhere between the years of 1 and 5. If your cat’s eyes have a gooey appearance or seem hazy, your cat is older than 5. If the cat’s eyes are beginning to look murky than she is between 15 to 20.

Glance at her teeth. They will be extremely white in a young cat and will begin to yellow as the cat ages. As your cat approaches old age, her teeth may start to fall out.

Brush your cat’s hair often. Note any texture changes. As a cat grows older her hair will thin. The hair will begin to lose it’s shine and will not be as thick as it was when she was young.
you count the whiskers…
