How to deal with test anxiety?

I have major test anxiety I don’t know what I can do to help. I get really upset when I do bad and I don’t understand why. With school I will get 90-100% on the lessons and homework but once it comes to a test I freak out. I know it isn’t from lack of studying either. I am just so tired with test anxiety getting in the way. It isn’t just with school either. Any advice?

I take make sure I eat plenty of complex carbohydrates and I also take a B-vitamin supplement prior to exams to calm myself down and keep the brain working at its best. Studying in advance - as opposed to cramming - is also important because you’ll be placing much less pressure on yourself in the lead-up to the exam. Giving yourself study breaks is also important to ensure that information soaks in, and that you don’t overload yourself. These strategies help to control anxiety and in turn maximise your test results. They work for me anyway.

I have exactly the same problem. It used to get so bad for me that I threw up before tests even though I was the top performer in my school. My suggestion is to see your doctor about it. I am on medication for anxiety and it has help me make huge changes in my life. To give you an idea a year and a half of being on my medication I wrote the most important exam in my life (to qualify as a professional chartered accountant) with manageable stress. Furthermore I’m more willing to try things. Another thing that’ll help your anxiety is to get out of your comfort zone i.e. do things on a regular basis that you are scared of, this builds confidence which in turn also helps with anxiety.
