Hi–I am caucasian, but thought I could share with you the name of a shampoo recommended by my hairdresser to reduce the yellow out of gray hair. You could ask your hairdresser if it works well also on African American Hair–I hope so, because the shampoo is very silky, smells great, and does well in cleaning and reducing the “yellow.” It is called Biosilk Silver Lights Shampoo. I purchased it at a Supercuts (salon chain) for about $12–it’s not cheap. I don’t use it for EVERY shampooing, but maybe every third shampoo. Good luck!
