carpet conversion

Well, when measuring for floor covering, you have to allow for a few different things. Take carpet for instance–it all has to be laid in one direction, so if you have a room that is 13 ft by 14ft you would have182 sq ft or 20.2 sq yds. Not quite so! When you lay the carpet you have to add a foot on one side(most carpet is sold in 12 ft widths by whatever length you need). to account for the extra 14 feet you need along one side you if you have to lay it the long way. You don’t want a series of one foot pieces connected together if you buy a 15 ft piece of carpet. Usually carpet installer’s want at least five or more feet of length to lay down that one side, so you need to buy a 12 x 19 piece of carpet(228 sq ft or 26 sq yards. Now!!!!!! if you have a pattern to match up you may have to buy even more.

I believe it would convert to 1198.1 square feet. I don’t know if this is right… I couldn’t find a converter online so I tried to calculate it myself.

Here is how I figured it out.

I found that 272.5 square feet = 30.25 square yards.

133 sq yds / 30.25 sq yds = 4.3966942148760330578512396694215

4.3966942148760330578512396694215 * 272.5 sq ft = 1198.0991735537190082644628099174 sq ft
