What is this carpenter bee doing when she raises her butt when we walk by?

So im guessing its a female.. My dad built a table and we keep it outside in the back and it made a whole in the table couple of months ago like 2 months ago.. Well we see her go in and out,of it all the time. Well tonight my mom and I went outside and we have a lighter outside.. Shes on the lighter with her butt in the air.. And if we walk past her, her butt raises alittle bit.. What is she doing?

It is probably just a display when he or she feels threatened. The gender of the bee you saw is most likely a male and not a female. The females spend most of their time in the next taking care of the queen bee’s eggs. The two for sure ways to tell is the male does not have a stinger. Only the females sting. Also, the males have white markings between the manibles. The females are all black without markings. You will have to get close to see this though.
