Can eating white rice help lose weight?

If I ate a cup of white rice 6 times a day, will it help to loose weight. A trainer for the Marine Corps boxing team makes his team eat this whenever there hungry to help them get down a few pounds for weigh ins. I always thought that white rice helped you gain weight.

Answer #1

It depends on what the rice is replacing in your diet.

If eating rice keeps you away from more fattening foods than it certainly could help you loose weight.

Why white rice? Brown rice has more fiber so it is more filling and has more protein and natural vitamins.

Mostly “white” rice and really thin asians? Malnutrition? Still way better than what 90% of the people eat these days.

Answer #5

I am asian. all I eat is white rice. why do you think we are so skinny? you don’t need any brown or whole wheat rice. there is nothing better than a bowl of hot white rice.

invest in a good zojirishi rice cooker and a big bag of rice from an asian food market. instant rice is disgusting.

good luck!

Answer #6

I agree with the asian answer. they do eat a lot of white rice, and most are very thin. even there older generation is more fit and are very slim, if you compair them to older americans .only a small group of asians whom have change there eating habits to the american fast food have now become over weight.the asian eating habits are a very old and have been handed down many years. white rice I believe has value. it’s in a very old food staple.

Eating white rice can help, but depends on how hard you are working out. If you work out a lot you can burn it off. People aare so scared of this carb hing and they don’t need to be. Athletes need carbs are bodies need it for energy and protein fior cellular regeneration. Eat your carbs but be smart. I do agree with the gentleman above on eating more brown rice and more wheat pasta with meal. get smae type of carbs but has a lot less sugar.

carbs aply mostly to couch potatoes that do nothing and expect to have these gorgous bodies. Hope I have helped, just chymed in on everyone elses thunder.

Answer #8

White rice has a lot of carbs, and the only way you can burn that off is if you exercise A LOT. The Marine Corps boxing team gets to eat white rice when they’re hungry because they do nothing but hard work outs, and burn carbs. In that case, yes, white rice would help you lose a few pounds, but for an average person, only eat white rice, pastas and breads before you exercise, and even that may not be a good idea all the time. If you like rice, a good alternative is brown rice. 1 cup of brown rice has 44.8g of carbs [which is still a lot] but is MUCH MUCH more healthier for you, for many reasons.

Good luck, I hope I helped.

Could it be that maybe asians just have a really fast motabolism? and that is why they are able to eat white rice all the time? As some one said about their old eating habits, they could possibly just eat small quantities at a time…

Answer #10

I’m going to try this starting today. I weigh 340lbs so we’ll see where I am in 1 month

Basmati rice is the most nutritive, I personnally eat every day Diamond Pearl Foods SONA IMPEX Indian long grain white basmati rice ‘cause it’s really good and i’ve lost 3kg in 2 months… That brand really wears it’s name well! “Diamond Pearl Foods” haha! Once cooked it reaches 8-9 mm long! Incredible! So i guess you “dose” with sports and all that. But it’s really nutritif! Viva Diamond Pearl Foods
