Is this a bug phobia? (read more)

  1. I have to code name an 8 legged bug (starts with an s), a bug beginning with centa, and a bug beginning with milla
  2. I can’t even write those bug names
  3. I can’t stop thinking about bugs
  4. I’m terrified of butterflies and dragonflies (I know I’m a wuss)
  5. I sometimes think they are coming after me even though I know they’re not
  6. I can’t kιll them because I fear they will live and come after me
  7. and many more but I can’t think of any more

I think I have a bug phobia and my therapist thinks so too (or so she says!) but I wanted to see who thought so too. I’m not crazy I just can’t stand bugs. Saying bugs bothers me too. And if you feel I do or don’t have a bug phobia then be nice when telling me what you think. This is a sensitive topic for me. Also, if anyone else thinks they have a bug phobia, I give them kudos for getting through it!

Well you’re obviously terrified of bugs so yes, you have a bug phobia.

How about the cartoon character Bugs Bunny? Or the mobster Bugsey Malone? Or when someone says “You bug me!!” Or the cute volkswagen?

This sounds like a textbook specific phobia for bugs to me. So it’s a yes from me. It may be a sensitive topic, but a phobia of this kind is highly counterproductive in life. If you are seeing a therapist, make an enquiry about systematic desensitisation. This is a process which gradually exposes you to more and more intense experiences regarding your fears until you can eventually confront them in their true form. Asking people to be nice about it normalises the problem which way demotivate to seek help regarding it.

When someone says, “you bug me” It is unnerving. the rest are fine.
