Hmm lets see, 1994-2004 =10 years then add 2004-2011 =7 years… 10+7=17 years all together…if I am not mistaking…;P

In the US ff it is after the person’s birthday their age would be the difference between the current year and their birth year. If it is before their birthday than subtract one from the difference.

In China ages are different. A baby is on it’s first year after it is born so in China a newborn baby is considered to be one. Ages increment with the calendar year instead of the person’s birthday so if a baby was born the day before the Chinese New Year they would be 2 the next day even they were only 2 days old. In other cultures ages are determined differently.

When I was a bicycle racer my “racing age” was the age I would be on December 31 of that year. This is so competitors wouldn’t have to change their racing class (junior, intermediate, senior, elite, masters) after their birthday; they stay in the same class throughout the racing season. This could be viewed as a hybrid of the Western and Chinese systems.

Note that we age decades, centuries, and millenia differently than people. There was on year 0; like Chinese babies the first year was 1. This means that the year 2000 wasn’t the first year of the 21st century but rather the last year of the 20th century. A point lost on most people.
