is it true that if you read a lot of books your IQ increases ?

Answer #1

Reading doesn’t make you more intelligent. It broadens your horizons of knowledge and vocabulary, and it excercises your brain.

lovely_lady, yes, it’s been shown many times that if you listen to classical music you’re more likely to perform better in a test involving your brain. But it hasn’t made you into a more intelligent person - it’s just a way to get your brain working to a higher potential.. a case of “use it or lose it” - just like muscles. If you warm up before excercising you can lift more in the heavier sets, but you would never saying warming up makes you stronger. A higher degree of repetitions increases your strength as it streamlines the muscles actions, just as with the music – you are stimulating the creative portion of the brain that could be useful when trying to solve a problem.

Why is there a problem with expanding the answer to a question? That’s not uncommon here. It’s often very much appreciated for an answer to be fully developed.

Answer #2

you don’t get a higher IQ. inteligence is unfortunately hereditary (written in genes), but how smart you are depends on how much you learn in life. reading books will definitely make you smarter, but dont worry about your IQ. IQ only matters if you want to learn something (how fast and how well can you learn something). with 80-100 you can finish high school and with some hard work an easier college. bu everything above 100…then the sky is the limit (or not :D)… Remember you can learn anything if you only try hard

Answer #3

I think IQ is more an indication of intelligence (ir how quickly you can pick up something) rather than knowledge (what you know), although there does seem to be some knowledge based questions within IQ tests, such as the meanings of words. Generally reading is best for knowledge, and knowledge is power. Studies show intelligence reaches it’s peak in a person at around age 24, however an older adult will generally crush someone in their early 20s or late teens in a debate, will be more articulate and so on, because the adult quite simply has amassed more knowledge. This is my view of it anyway. I’m no expert

Answer #4

IQ doesnt actually show how smart you are. Just how well you are with certain functions of your brain.

Answer #5

Depends on what books you read.. But generally.. yes it does
