Is black coffee considered a "clear fluid"?

I have to go for a medical test on Thursday, and I have to be on a clear fluid diet. From what I recall back when I was working as a Dietetic Aide (nearly 20 years ago), clear fluids are relatively translucent, while full fluids are thick. I don’t think I’ll survive the day if I don’t have my coffee, so can anyone clear this up for me?

Answer #1

Well it is surely 99% water but it’s not exactly clear…wow what a stumper…good question :) I’ll have to stick around for this one.

Answer #2

Oh Colleen, on a side note 5 hour energy is a very good coffee like pick me up. (incase you don’t survive)

Answer #3

i wouldnt class coffee as being in a clear liquid diet….

i think the best youll get from this is very weak cuppa tea

Answer #4

lol … those energy drinks - all of them - have no effect on me whatsoever. Anyway, it’s not the energy I need (coffee doesn’t give me any energy, either), it’s the pounding headache I get when I don’t have it … withdrawal, you see ;)

Answer #5

No! Tell me what I want to hear, lol

Answer #6

Sorry Colleen, no coffee. When my dad has his scans once a month and has to drink a clear fluid diet right before it - he can’t have his coffee. He’s a miserable old man until that test is over and he can get a cup of daily fix too lol.

I have a feeling you already knew the answer to this question though and are just desperatly looking for a loophole or for someone to say its okay (when we know it isn’t). Then we can ignore logic and just believe that one person who knows nothing about medical test and you can have your coffee!!! lol.

Answer #7

lol … Darn it. Well, can’t blame for for trying, right? ;)

Answer #8

I see but it seems you have a caffeine addiction. I too get the headache from avoidance. The one I referred to was a 1 oz shot of caffeine and herbs I guess. I don’t really get into the drinks either but I have tried that one in a pinch and it seemed to do the trick. They claim the same caffeine level as coffee.

Answer #9

Hmmm … I wasn’t considering the caffeine - just the energy effects … maybe I’ll try that.

Answer #10

The place to find out is from your doctor’s office. If you call in and talk to your doctor or their PA or nurse they should be able to tell you if coffee is OK. When I had my colonoscopy I was on a clear liquid diet and coffee was OK for me.
