Birth control and missing pill.

This is mostly an answer I just gave to a ‘fau’ question. So if that was also your question, my apologies for repeating.

You are not as well protected, but you still have a high degree of safety. If you did not double up, some doctors might recommend going for a full cycle using an additional form of birth control. But it is up to you and your doctor.

For future reference. Most BC pills recommend doubling up on the first day of resumption - IF you only missed 1 day. For example, if you miss a Tuesday pill, on Wednesday you should take the skipped Tuesday pill as soon as you notice, and also take the normal Wednesday pill at the regular time. Then finish out the pack normally. Should you forget to take a birth control pill during the third week of your pack, finish all the oral contraceptives in your pack and skip the last 7 (non-hormonal) pills. Immediately begin a new birth control pill pack, understanding that you may not have another period until you are finished with this new package. You will have somewhat lower protection for 7 days after the skipped pill, so you should also use condoms during that week. (Incidentally, for anyone out there, if your missed pill is one of the last 7 pills of a 28 day pack, just throw it away with NO loss of protection. The last 7 pills are basically sugar pills.)
