I want 2 c how much you know.tell me the difference btween mitosis and Meiosis???
Biology is spelled wrong on your title.
Mitosis: Cells of the body splitting Meiosis: Sex celss splitting Easy stuff!
Nice just wanted 2 c if you guys know anything about them. Mitosis is body cells and Meiosis is sex cells!!
one is spelled different?? haha I don’t know im a dropout
They are both types of cell division. however meiosis occurs mostly in the gonads (testes and ovaries). meiosis consits of two successive divisions of the nucleus. this results in four daughter cells. while mitosis has only two daughter cells.
Both Mitosis and Meiosis are mechanisms that describe cell division
After Mitosis, each of the daughter cells will have exactly the same DNA strands, while after Meiosis each daughter cell will only have half of the DNA strands.
Mitosis is cell division for bodily growth and repair (If you get a cut, your cells divide and replicate in a mitotic process), whereas meiosis is the division of sex cells after fertilisation into a new embryo.
The way I remembered it in school was:
Meiosis: sounds a bit like ‘my ovaries’ = sex cells Mitosis: sounds a bit like ‘my toes’ = there is nothing sexy about toes!
mitosis is making a cell identical to the parent cell. in mitosis, you have one cell with, lets use humans as an example, 46 chromosomes. After mitosis, you have two cells each with 46 chromosomes. In meiosis, you produce cells with 1/2 the number of chromosomes. Thus, 46 chromosomes becomes 2 cells with 23 chromosomes (actually, its 4 cells with 23 chromosomes but I dont want to get too complicated right now).
